About

The Old West Gunsmiths

Many years ago, when the Old West still needed tamed, the American people relied on heroes such as Pat Garrett and Wyatt Earp to lay down the law and ensure the land could be settled peacefully. But, who did our folk heroes rely on when THEY needed help? The answer is quite simple: the gunsmiths of the American Frontier.

With almost all of America's industry located back East, the settlers of the American Frontier found great challenge in getting supplies. Even after the Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869, the fastest you could ever hope to get supplies from the East Coast to the West Coast was a week. With the majority of the United States' firearms and ammunition manufacturing facilities located in Connecticut during the 1800s, the wait times for shipments of ammunition and firearms repair components could often be unacceptably long. The West could not be tamed by men waiting weeks for repairs or specialty ammunition. So they called upon their local gunsmiths for assistance.

While these days we think of a Gunsmith as nothing more than a firearms repair man, they used to be so much more. Back in the days of the American Frontier, you could not only rely on your local gunsmith to repair your firearm, but to also complete jobs such as preparing ammunition and cleaning your trusty rifle. Back when scopes were still a strictly custom affair, they constructed those too.

Gunsmiths Today

Today, gunsmiths are all but another relic from the past. With firearms continually getting cheaper, manufacturers offering generous warranties, and shipping taking a matter of days instead of weeks, the only gunsmiths still surviving are those that work on obsolete and specialty firearms, and none of them offer a full range of services like the gunsmiths of yore. This allows the big manufacturers to simultaneously lower the quality of their products while increasing prices, because they know that you have to either purchase their product, or nothing at all. There is just simply no quality competition to keep them regulated.

Falcon Munitions Company

In 2018, a hand-loader had a vision: To start a gun shop that truly represented the core values, as well as offered the services, of the original gunsmiths of the American Frontier. A gun shop that not only offered today's typical basic gunsmithing services, but also offered ammunition of the absolute highest quality, made in house. A gun shop that could not only keep up with the high demand of customers, but one that still treated each and every customer like a neighbor in a small western settlement. A gun shop that could provide some much needed competition to the big manufacturers.

From that vision, Falcon Munitions Company was born. Located in Avis, Pennsylvania, Falcon Munitions Company has one objective: To serve our customers and stand behind our products with the integrity and honor of true craftsmen. Compare our products to even the highest dollar competitor, and the difference is clear: We take the utmost pride in our work.
